Now that the Buddy Hield signing and trade deal has gone down, Warriors fans have given Golden State’s new backcourt duo a fitting nickname.
While Steph Curry and the recently departed Klay Thompson were known as the Splash Brothers, fans have dubbed the new sharpshooting duo the “Splash Buddies” (courtesy of SI’s Tom Dierberger).
Hield is one of the league’s best 3-point shooters, shooting a solid 40 percent from beyond the arc in his eight-year NBA career. While he’ll never replace Thompson, he will give the new Warriors team another dangerous perimeter shooter.
Warriors fans will remember Hield fondly from his five seasons with the Sacramento Kings, where he developed into one of the league’s best long-range specialists and won the 2020 NBA 3-Point Contest.
There have been big changes in Golden State since the start of free agency, with the franchise letting go of Chris Paul and agreeing to a sign-and-trade deal with Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks. Now with the additions of Hield, De’Anthony Melton and Kyle Anderson, the revamped Golden State lineup will look to improve on last season’s play-in-game loss to the Kings.
While the Splash Buddies may not have as good a reputation as the Splash Brothers, Hield and Curry should still be able to make some impressive 3-pointers this upcoming NBA season.
