In summary
- As part of Pokémon GO Fest 2024, Play Points can be exchanged for physical items such as lapel pins, bags, and baseball caps.
- Thanks to this promotion, Pokémon GO players can earn five times as many points as normal on purchases made throughout the weekend.
- While the availability of these physical items is limited, don’t expect this offer to last long.
Who doesn’t love getting something for nothing? Rewards programs that offer incentives for stuff you were planning on buying anyway certainly feel like free money, and in 2019, Google launched its own program for Android apps called Play Points. The more you spend on apps and in-app purchases (IAPs), the more Play Points you earn. If you’ve got a stack of points and are looking for something to do with them, there’s now a new option to spend your points on physical products.
If swag isn’t your thing, the GO Fest 2024 promotion also lets you redeem points for special in-game encounters. You’ll even get the chance to earn five times the normal Play Points on IAPs purchased through Sunday.
Google clearly hasn’t forgotten about Play Points, and we still get new promotions like this every now and then, but physical products that you can redeem points for are few and far between. The vast majority of redemption options are for in-app content, whether it’s the digital purchases themselves or simply coupons to save on them.
In the past, we’ve seen deals like the ability to get Google Store credit that you could put toward things like a new Pixel phone. Last summer, we got some good deals like shipping discounts and even fun Google stuff like Chrome dino socks, but those deals never seem to last long. And by the way, neither does this deal, and Google is clear that these Pokémon items are truly while supplies last; at best, you have until the end of the month to order one. Now, try to get your hands on one!
