Meet the Swiss Army Knife of Gallery Apps
The brand has done a great job of adding new and useful features over the years, and now it looks like Google is going to make a significant change to the Locked Folder that will literally put it front and center. The change was spotted by the folks over at 9to5Google and will hopefully give users an easier way to access their sensitive photos and videos.
Users can now quickly access the locked folder
If you’re unfamiliar with Google Photos’ locked folder, it’s an area within the app where you can store any media that you want to keep private. Once media is added to that photo, it’s protected with a password and won’t appear in a gallery or other apps. While it’s great to have if you’re trying to keep parts of your life secret from others, the feature was buried in a menu system that made it harder to access.
As mentioned, the Locked Folder will now have a dedicated spot within the Photos app, giving users a quick and easy way to access it. You can see how the app’s UI has changed, with the Utilities section being replaced by Locked. Speaking of Utilities, much of the functionality that was found in that section of the app can now be accessed by tapping the “+” symbol at the top, near the user’s profile image.
This update is rolling out now to Google Photos on Android and iOS, so if you haven’t yet updated your app, do so now to get this new look. While some will be thrilled with this change, others may have preferred the previous look with the Locked Folder that was a bit more hidden. Let us know in the comments which you prefer.
